NeedleTrainer
NeedleTrainer is a VR simulator from Surgical Science (Intelligent Ultrasound Series) for safe, realistic practice of ultrasound-guided needling. Using a retractable needle and augmented-reality virtual image overlays, the trainee performs non-invasive needling on a live participant while carrying out real-time ultrasound scanning. The platform develops hand-eye coordination, needle positioning accuracy, and needle-probe coordination skills with minimal risk. It is available in a cart-based or portable case-based configuration as an all-in-one solution.

- Augmented-reality technology overlays the virtual needle onto the live ultrasound feed for a highly realistic scanning experience
- Retractable needle enables non-invasive needling practice on a live participant in a safe yet realistic clinical setting
- Customizable echogenicity and gauge of the virtual needle to match the procedure and specialty requirements
- Needle visualization measurements for objective assessment of needle-probe coordination competence
- Add-on modules and accessories: Vascular Access Mode plus two additional needle lengths extend training to more specialties
- NeedleTrainer Plus adds color overlays to differentiate anatomical structures and improve image interpretation for regional anesthesia
- Two configurations: cart-based or portable case-based — an all-in-one solution
- Practice on real live human models: train patient positioning and scanning of different bodies, which appear differently under ultrasound
- Ultrasound-guided needling and catheterization
- Vascular access and line placement
- Regional anesthesia and peripheral nerve block
- Needle-probe and hand-eye coordination under ultrasound
- Needling procedures in nephrology (e.g., dialysis vascular access)
- Ultrasound-guided needling procedures in obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN)
